Hawzah News Agency- Speaking during a Qur’anic recitation session at Hazrat Fatima Masumeh Shrine in Qom, scholar Mohammad Haj Abolqasem reflected on verse 54 of Surah al-Ma’idah, highlighting the spiritual qualities that enable believers to resist submission to hostile forces.
Spiritual Strength as a Foundation of Independence
According to Hojatoleslam Haj Abolqasem, the verse points to a defining psychological and moral attribute of faithful communities — an inner strength rooted in devotion to God that shields them from fear of reproach.
He argued that this spiritual resilience is essential for maintaining identity-based independence, noting that political sovereignty is unattainable without first achieving moral and cultural self-confidence.
“The believers’ unwavering commitment to struggle in the path of justice,” he explained, “is sustained by their refusal to be swayed by blame or external pressure.”
Beyond Praise and Criticism
The cleric stressed that sincere devotion requires transcending both praise and condemnation.
He said that individuals who anchor their actions solely in divine accountability are not deterred by social judgment, media narratives, or political pressure.
In this framework, fear of criticism — whether expressed through public discourse, social media, or institutional messaging — becomes secondary to the pursuit of principled conduct.
Lessons from Sacred History
Haj Abolqasem pointed to historical precedents that illustrate perseverance in the face of ridicule and opposition, citing the example of Prophet Noah, who endured mockery while carrying out his divine mission.
Such narratives, he suggested, underscore a recurring theme in religious history: that steadfastness in the face of adversity ultimately leads to vindication.

The cleric argued that similar pressures manifest today in various forms — from cultural trends and social expectations to global media narratives — all of which, he said, aim to influence societies away from independently chosen paths.
He maintained that despite these challenges, the Iranian nation’s resistance continues to resonate beyond its borders.
“Public opinion among the world’s free-minded people,” he said, “remains aligned with nations that uphold dignity and independence.”

Concluding his remarks, Haj Abolqasem emphasized that the Qur’anic message carries practical implications for everyday life.
Whether maintaining religious practices in public spaces, preserving modesty in the face of social pressure, or resisting materialistic norms, he said, individuals are called to act without fear of criticism.
In his view, moral courage — grounded in faith — remains the key to both personal integrity and collective resilience.
